What can i do with a Masters in psychology?

What kind of jobs will I be able to get, will I be considered a psychologist? Will I be able to work on my own?

depending on where you are located, it is possible to be a licensed psychologist, but you may still have to report to a supervisor of some sort. it is helpful to have your masters in psychology (versus just your bachelors.) it gives you more options. also think about working in education. there are many jobs in special education that require a human-service related degree (such as psychology) where you work as a counselor, mental health worker, or maybe one-on-one support in a classroom setting. good luck!

In North America, there are only a few places where you can be licensed as a psychologist with a master's degree. The vast majority of states and provinces require a doctoral degree to be licensed. Some states and provinces will license master's trained individuals as psychological associates. But they are not allowed to establish an independent practise. They must be supervised by a fully licensed psychologist. You can, however, work as a therapist or a counsellor. There are certifications and licensure in areas such as marriage and family therapist which accept master's trained individuals. I don't think you will have trouble finding employment, just not as a "psychologist" unless you work in West Virginia or Newfoundland or one of the other places which license at the master's level.

you will be considered a psychologist. If you want to work on your own, I would suggest taking a few business classes so you know how to get started on your own. There are tons of jobs out their for someone like you. Talk to your proffessors or look online.
