On what day did Hitler invade Czechoslovakia? This took place after the Munich Conference and I've been having some trouble finding the exact date.

~British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain agreed that Hitler could annex Sudetenland on September 15, 1938. On September 18, French Prime Minister Édouard Daladier added his endorsement. Benito Mussolini suggested a meeting and the Munich Conference was held on September 29. The Czechoslovak government did not attend, but on September 30, agreed to comply (like they had a choice). Hitler's troops moved in between October 1 and October 10. The annexation of Sudetenland can't really be called an invasion under these circumstances (unless one really wants to consider substance over form). On March 15, 1939, Hitler moved into the balance of Czechoslovakia and the country ceased to exist (until after the war). Of course, before October 1918, there was no such country either.

edit: Well, thank you Gerry D.

Nemo,
Oscar above me has the correct answer to your question. There was no resistance from the population in the sectors that Germany occupied - if anything just the opposite. The tanks were adorned with wreaths from the locals whom by the way were of German descent. Soldiers who were serving in the Czech Army at the time were released from their active service and actually the Czech's were defeated before a blow was even struck.

Hard to imagine Hitler "not" invading somewhere, but between Austria and Sudetenland these invasions were more a rejoining of previous territory.

Hope this helps - Oscar deserves the 10 points; however, you have really great answers to this question.

Best to you!

15 March 1939--Churchill's prediction was fulfilled as Nazi armies entered Prague and proceeded to occupy the remainder of Bohemia and Moravia, which was transformed into a protectorate of the Reich. The eastern half of the country, Slovakia, became a separate pro-Nazi state.
