Positives - you exercise the only right you have to have your voice heard. Politicians will only ever EVER _EVER_ listen to you at the polling station; look where protesting over the Iraq war got us. Even if it's unlikely it'll be listened to, at least there's a chance

You get the right to complain about politics - you don't vote, you can't complain.

Negatives - your voice probably won't get listened to so there's little point

Nevertheless I'd still say it's worth voting just in case.

The 'positive' is that you at least get to express your opinion. While it might not mean much (since our corrupt two-party system has pretty well stacked the deck in their favor), you at least get to voice your opinion.
The 'negative' of being a voter is that you continue to play into the myth that the American voting process is a legitimate part of our democracy, which - unfortunately - it no longer is. Votes are manipulated by the two major political parties to produce the outcome they want as they 'take turns' fooling citizens into thinking they actually have some 'say' in who gets elected. It's a monopolistic, rigged, corrupt political system that will only be cleaned up when voters finally demand to take the process back instead of turning power over to the "Republicrats". -RKO- 11/14/07

Voting don t matter based on the way they do it. 55% of the country could want one person but the other wins due to the top 7 states getting his vote. I say no body votes this next election because all of them are not worth it. They say they will do this or that but they really can t do much unless the congress, house, and senate approve it.
Or everyone can do the alternative. Use the right to write in your vote and put my name in. I can promise to help people get work and a home if they want it. I will not be taking my full salary for myself. I need only 100,000 so $200,000 will go to create a company to help homeless get work and a home if they want it. So Keith A Weigant is the name and I am the Working Man s President. I will use my salary to help the working man to the best of my ability.

Margot - when you finally realize that the powers that control the US also control the candidates who run for major office, Rep/Demo, for the working person it's a real, come see/come saw situation. Would say Voting is Pointless for working Americans.

If you do not vote you cannot make changes and you then lose the right to complain. It is a right of citizenship and what makes America a great country. We can vote for what we want and don`t want.

Being a voter means that you at least get your opinion in the election process. Granted, it doesn't always count, but it is a privilege that you as a citizen get, and you should utilize it as such.

To become an informed voter is to be grateful enough for the liberty you enjoy to help maintain it.
