I am sorry to say that if both of your names are on the contracts you are responsible as well. My step-dad left my mom with credit cards and bills she didn't even know about. I would cancel any cards and have him sell the car if it is in your name, too. Otherwise you will have to split the bills

It depends on who name what is in, and your state laws. The best thing to do is consult an attorney. The courts sometimes cut things right down the middle, bills and all, but if he has not worked, you have been the sole breadwinner, it may go in his favor unfortunately. Get the best divorce attorney you can get, make sure you go in with documented proof of the damages, and if your name is on the cars, etc...Look out for yourself...
I went through a messy divorce, and I got the raw end of the deal, same situation, he didn't work, everything was in my name, and I had to pay all the bills off before I could get anything in my name again. It sucked!

Im a guy and i hate to say this but once you get a lawyer and go to court he will get it up his proverbial canal. Women always get the better hand once they go to court, custody, money, the house you name it. Especially if the guy is a jerk (sounds like he is) and he can pretty much kiss that royal truck of his good bye. Go to court, get what you deserve he owes you nothing more and move forward. If you allow your lawyer or whoever to go on a greed binge it will only get worse and turn into a llooonnnngggg and bitter nightmare. Get it over with quick as possible, the sooner you start healing; financially or whatever, the better for all concerned. Good luck.

Consult with an attorney to find out your options. My sister got "hooped" on her divorce. Her ex got part of her pension and half the house. Unfortunately for her she was the bread winner. Then he met a female physician and made out well. Don't get screwed like this! Good luck

It doesn't matter who files first. All that matters is that the creep is going to get out---consider yourself lucky. If there's a disparity in incomes, then yes, he may have to pay for your attorney. You should be on the phone right now seeking the advice of an attorney instead of wasting your time on yahoo.

Consult a lawyer and sue him for damages in divorce court. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to get alimony as well.

In divorce unless you signed a prenup everything gets split in half and he is required to pay alimony to you depending on hi work pay. Needless to say get off Yahoo answers and find yourself a good attorney.
