Most of the other answers have got it right except for the very last step. Here is how to get SHORTCUTS.

1. Use the Search command in a File Explorer window and search for all *.pdf files.
2. When the search is finished, Select All (Ctrl-A), then Copy (Ctrl-C)
3. Go to your shortcuts folder
4. Right click and pick

...

Drum roll, please!

Paste Shortcut

You will have a folder of shortcuts to all the PDF files you selected before.

type *.pdf in the first empty box

highlight the pdf's that you want to save and right click and copy the files to a folder
right click on the folder that you have for the pdf files and click on send to the desktop(it will create a shortcut to the folder)

IF Win XP

Click START > SEARCH > ALL FILES AND FOLDERS > Type in ---> *.pdf

Let it finish searching, could take a while...

Now because most of theose files will be in diffferent locations its hard to link to them all...

Make a new folder on your desktop (right click new folder)

So... When the search has finished... Press CTRL (hold it) and press A - that selects all files...

Right click anywhere on the files (should be highlighted and blue) and select COPY

Now open your folder on your desktop and paste them in there....

Hi. Search for *.pdf and then ctrl A. Copy.

Edit. Make sure you only select files located on one partition for copying. Repeat for the other partitions or drives.

I had to think a moment to understand what the first response meant so I'm going to simplify it just incase anyone else reading this has the education of a middle schooler.

Go to "My computer"
On teh top press "search"
Search All files and folders
type *.pdf and press search
