I haven't seen one in a while. You have gotten me to got to Netflix to see if I can get some. I remember watching them in the early '50s on TV. Really liked George "Gabby" Hayes. The first movie I can remember seeing with Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers, in the late '40s, was "Pecos Bill" from Disney.
The song LORD Z is referring to must have been used as a lead in for the TV program that showed the films. It was done by the Statler Brothers in 1973. Here is the second verse:

Whatever happened to Randolph Scott Ridin' the trail alone. Whatever happened to Gene and Tex And Roy and Rex The Durango Kid. Oh, whatever happened to Randolph Scott His horse plain as could be. Whatever happened to Randolph Scott Has happened to the best of me

A lot of the Roy Rogers films were made in color but reprinted in black and white, which was cheaper, because back then there was no color TV.

All the time.

I still remember the song they played before the movie . It went something like: "What evr happened to Randolf Scott Riding the trail alone? What ever happened to Gene and Tex and Roy and Rex and the Randolf Kid...."

Those was interesting films, short but interesting. Mostly black and white with thos simple soundtracks and clouds of white smoke everytime a gun went off.

I liked them then. i still like them now....
