i am on swim team mon-fri. I just got my 3rd period. I don't really want to use tampons since its only my third period but i can't miss a week of practice either. Both of my coaches are boys so i do not really want to tell them. Are there any other options for me?

once you get your bathing suit on... if you jump right into the water right after you get your suit on... the blood doesn't show in the pool... alot of people think their period stops when they are swimming, because you don't see blood when you swim (even though it doesn't really stop) - - but it can slow down while you are swimming also... so you can swim without a tampon... just don't tell people because they might think it's really gross and say stuff... if you don;t believe me, try taking a bath... by the end the water isn't going to look bloody (take a bath with your bathing suit even) - - you could also try a tampon... if it doesn't work for you (it';s easier for some people than others) then try the bath thing if you want - - O, Also, I forgot to mentioin that I have been on a swim team for almost 7 years now (I am 14 now) and I have had my period for about two years and I have two friends on my highschool team with me now who have never used a tampon in their life, and always go to swim practice without wearing one - - don't worry it's totally un-noticable (TRUST ME!) it seams like it stops when you are swimming... (I have gone without one before too, it's no biggie!)
O yea, also, don't put toilet paper in your suit... it makes a mess when you jusm in the pool, and that's when it becomes noticable!

You only have two choices: use a tampon or tell your coaches (even though they are boys, they HAVE heard of a period before).

If you decide to swim, you HAVE to wear a tampon. Even if you are only bleeding lightly, you still need the tampon. The exercise might make you bleed heavier. and Water DOES NOT stop a period! Water just washes away the blood. (Just think, would YOU like to swim in someone else's blood?)

To start, get a slender (or teen) tampon with a PLASTIC applicator. And you aren't too young for tampons--your body was physically ready the minute you got your first period.

Hey, i know exactly how you feel, I was on a swim team once, but luckuly my trial ended before I got my first period. What I would have done, was just miss that time, but If I had to stay, i would probably put a lot of things on so it wouldnt be noticeable. I would never put a tampon on though, im scared.
Good Luck!

Tampons are wonderful!!! I was on the track team for four years, and always used one when I ran. They take some time to get use to, but just relax and take your time. There are some extremely tiny tampons out there, that would be wonderful for you first time. Good luck, and best wishes. Just remember that it does take practice, and you probably will not get it on your first time.

No, not really. Tampons and menstrual cups are you only choices for internal collection of menstrual blood. Buy the tampons made for teens. They are slender and small. Read the directions. Take your time and go from there.

Tampons are really your only option, just get the light ones, plastic applicator, and you should be ok.

If it is really light, then you should not have a problem. If it is heavier, the best thing to do would be to use a tampon.
Ask your female teamates what they do.
