My girls have had a pet toad since summer, sometimes when the cats are outside I take her out and let her hop around (she has learned to go back to her cage when she is tired) when I have her out I pet her, lately when I pet her she closes her eyes and leans to whatever side I am petting her on, why does she do that?

Toads can get use to people too. Obviously, your toad gets attention. Many people think only warm blooded animals like to be pet, rubbed, scrubbed or scratched. However, other animals can enjoy this as well. Some species of reptiles and amphibians get use to you giving them physical attention and will respond to it. Your toad leans in because she is letting you know that she likes that area rubbed. Cats do that all the time. The toads I had when younger did the same thing. However, some animals will only respond to their owner giving them affection. When my toads did not want someone handling them then they would urinate on their hand. This is a defense for toads. Toads will gobble down worms and crickets easily. In captivity this gives the toad the nutrition it needs. There are vitamin supplements you can coat their food with. If you are going to keep the toad then make sure you know how to take proper care of it.

I have 2 toads and mine do that too. I think they just like it! I'm not sure , maybe it's the traction of your finger or hand.
