My current stats:
Intel(R) Celeron(R) D CPU 3.46GHz
1024MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Windows XP
I was thinking of getting this processor. Would it help my framerate on games like Call of Duty 4 or Gears of War?
If so, how much would it help? (raise ___ fps)

As long as your motherboard supports Core 2 Duo, that E4500 should significantly boost your PCs overall performance. BUT best framerates gain comes from the GPU. Overclocking that 8500GT could give you as much as 30% performance increase in many games.

But it won't be awesome because the 8500GT is held back by its low number of stream processors; only 16 as compared to the 32 SP of 8600 series and 112 SP of the 8800GT.

It would probably help quite a bit. Going from a celeron to a new core 2 duo would would be a huge difference. It sounds like that was a store bought PC (hp, compaq, dell, etc.) Make sure the current motherboard will accept a dual core processor. Just because the socket type is the same doesnt mean it will work.

the main factor in FPS is the Graphics card, but it could definatly speed some things up, like load times

for video cards, i recommend getting the 8800GT, only 250 bucks and amazing

as for the CPU, if you dont have the right socket motherboard (in this case for the E4500, the socket 775) then your gunna need a new mobo

and for processors, i recommend the E6600 or the E6750

yes it will definetly help, but wait- go to tiger direct.com and get a pentium D- about 50 bucks and almost as fast as the c2d (even faster with overclocking) plus if u really want to see results i would rrecomend buying the xxx 8600gt gpu- 100 bucks and comes with a free a game(tigerdirect aswell)

i would definetly get the processor first though-you can over clock ur current gpu w/ ati tool(google it works great i have a x300 ati- really crapy that runs full settings because of it)

i believe so...as far as i know a core duo is faster than a celeron D...celeron D is what im running also, and from what ive been told, even a high end pentium 4 would be faster than what im running.
