I have used this before and it has stayed inflated for weeks! Now whenever I sleep on it, it deflates. One side in "smooth" the other is fuzzy. And I don't know if the air is coming out the cap or little blow in air thing. And it could be coming out on the sides. The water thing isn't working.

P.S I have patched up a hole with the mattress repair tape. Could the air be coming out of that even though it's repaired??

I would re-tape what you've already repaired. If you can't find a hole, chances are that's it.

Fill up the bath tub with water. Then submerge the entire air mattress one section at a time under water. Look for air bubbles. When you see the bubbles that's where its leaking. You might want to empty out half of the air in the mattress first to fit it into the tub.

The hole or tear could be in the side seem. Also make sure the cap is on correctly. Put your ear on the mattress and make sure the room is quiet. Listen for a hiss sound.

To answer your PS first...YES.

Not to be crude but SPIT always worked for me looking for bike tire tube leaks. Obviously your area is larger, but you should be able to narrow it, even with water, and some modest pressure on the mattress/valve.

I offer a suggestion/analogy. The air; especially when the mattress is laid on/sat on/ etc....IS under pressure; much like a leak in a vinyl above ground pool with water being the medium. The issue is that the PATCH,,,though you can't do this; is best served; applied from the inside. Physics 101

Inflate the mattress with an electric pump. Get a spray bottle full of soapy water, and spritz the entire surface until you find the bubbly spot.

Usually by running water on the mattress, you'll see bubbles, which indicates a hole. (like when you have an air leak in your tire)
