According to the standards from 2006, the American heart Association and the American Red Cross all teach the same thing now, and most of the other answers need to renew or review their training.
The compressions are given in cycles of 30 compressions to 2 breaths. The 20 compressions should take about 18 seconds (at the rate of about 100/minute- 80/minute is the old rate).
The ratio is 30:2 for all CPR- adult, child, and infant- the ONLY exceptions are 2-person for children and infants (Red Cross- Heart may teach something different here). Then it is 15:2.
So- to answer your question- each compression takes about 1/2 of a second.
American Red Cross instructor- and I just taught it again today so I know I am right.

In a two minute period you should have 5 cycles of compressions, in a minute it would be 2 1/2 cycles. This using the international standard of CPR rate of 30;2 (30 compressions to 2 breaths) Taking into consideration that you have to stop after each set of 30 compressions, to give the victim 2 breaths. I would have say the it would be approximately 80 compressions for the minute mark, for person doing the CPR by themselves. Thinking logically the answer is c) 80.

The compression to respirations for Adult Single rescuer CPR are 30:2 - 30 compressions to 2 breaths. The guideline is to average 'about' 100 compressions per minute at that rate. 15:2 is for infant CPR and 2 rescuer child and adult CPR.

You should do at least 100 per min, so less that a second for each. Push to at least 2 inches deep, and make sure you come all the way back up. Lift your hands off the chest if you have to. If you ever actually have to do this, expect the ribs to break, when they do just keep going. And be careful id you actually breathe into their mouth, they may vomit. Take a local American Heart Association CPR class if you are really interested.

I learned you need to do 30 compressions at the RATE of 80 compressions per MINUTE. Just do one-and, two-and, etc.
It's interesting I'm getting thumbs-down for the way I learned it. Like I can help that.
