Use Nature's Miracle. You can definitely find it at pet stores. You pour it on and let it dry; don't wipe it up or scrub or anything.

I PROMISE you that it wil get the odor out as long as you pour it on every place where the vomit is (was). It's the most amazing stuff I've ever used (it's an enzyme eater not a cover-up).

I have a bissell and I have used any soap under the sun. Then my friend suggested I just go get a bottle of ammonia at the dollar store and use that instead of expensive carpet soaps. It works like a charm and the ammonia smell goes away really quickly. If you read the ingredients on carpet cleaners it usually lists ammonia as the first ingredient. I have saved a fortune.

The vomit smell is a volatile compound called butyric acid. If you dissolve bicarbonate of soda in water and rub it in, it will react with the butyric acid to form sodium butyrate, which is a solid, and you can't smell it. a cup of sodium bicarbonate in the fridge gets rid of most unpleasant smells the same way.
