First, graph f(x)=x^2. Think of f(x) as y. This graph should be a parabola with points at (1, 1), (2, 4), (3, 9), and so on. Only include positive values, because the square of a real number can't be negative. Then, move the entire graph up 2 units.

When x=0, f(x)=2 so vertex is at (0,2) Since the x^2 term is positive the function has a minimum at (0,2) . The axis of symmetry is the y axis. We have a parabola shaped like a U.
The very lowest point of the U is the vertex.
A few other points are (-2, 6), (-1, 3) (1, 3), (2,6)
