Not to blow my own horn, and maybe I attract them because I'm short, but I have noticed a lot of men prefer short women. I found an article to support this claim also. When I asked one of my exes, he denied the boost of manhood factor, and explained that shorter women are more feisty and have more fire LOL....not sure if I buy into that...

I guess it would be anywhere between 5 and 5'4" or something?

Helping Hand: you're right, I have noticed men over 6'2" natually prefer taller women to match.

OKay, Ms. L, first, you probably attract your fair share because you are pretty. I mean, seriously, that's like, a no brainer, right? Pretty girls tend to attract plenty of male attention. The fact that you seem relatively friendly helps too.
But this isn't about you, this is about short women, in general. I have found that short women are generally far more assertive than their taller contemporaries. It would be very easy to say that men dig it for the protective, macho factor, but my experience (by no means definitive) has told me that short women are the first to take karate, carry mace, pack a gun, and generally step right up in your face and defy you to say they aren't 'tough enough.'
Me, I like short women, though since I'm only 5'8", I have had limited opportunities (two, actually) to experience being involved with a woman significantly shorter than me. But they do tend to be very assertive and 'feisty.' There is probably a bit of compensatory rationalization going on on both sides of the gender fence (isn't there always?)
In any case, small people are 'cute.' Male or female. This isn't even an American thing. My friend Tatjana tells me that there is a Russian aphorism that goes, 'Big (or tall, depending on context) women are for working (see? working!) but tiny women are for love.' She says her mother used to tell her that all the time, since she never broke 4'11".

Ok. I have the same problem you do. My husband (whom I married 1 1/2 month ago mind you) has a preference to short, thin women...very petite. He also likes a woman who is dark complexioned...with that olive skin, and large big brown eyes. And, since he is of Italian descent (from his mother's side), he tends to really like women with those sharp meditteranean features. I, on the other hand, am not paticularly short...I am 5'5" which is average height, I have brown eyes...not too large, not too small...just about right...I have a very pretty face which he has told me I have, and I do have the long dark hair (used to be blonde when I started dating him and he asked me to change it because he'd prefer it dark and I caved), and I am far from petite... I have butt, thighs, boobs, and I am actually overweight (in a program trying to be the best me currently. :-) ). However, NONE of this matters...whether he likes petite or not or whether you are what matches that type, etc... When a man marries a woman, it has a lot more to do with than just your physical appearance... If he went out of his way to propose to you, get a ring, find the right time to pop the question and put it on your finger, take you to that restaurant, go through the process of preparing for a wedding, and did all or whatever he did to make you his wife...trust me...your not being petite is not that important. I suggest you do what "I" am doing now. In order to boost your confidence level, so that you can add value to yourself, and therefore your relationship, do whatever you have to do to be the best and healthiest most beautiful you... DO IT FOR YOURSELF...not so much for him. Love YOU. And when you do that...you'll see that he will want/desire you all the more. You will not have to worry about what "type" he likes because YOU will surely become his type all of a sudden. Watch and see... I guarantee it. ;-)

Perhaps there is a link between that preference and a protective nature in some men, which is a quality I am particularly fond of (the protective), but if that were the case in the majority of men, then I'd be in somewhat of a one-sided predicament (coming from my attraction to both genders), as I'm not short, hehe. ;-)

I've only "been" with one woman over 5'2" (and she was 5'6") though in high school I dated a girl who was 5'11". I don't have a particular height preference, but I don't seem to attract taller women. (And with my assertiveness issues, women I've been with have generally had to pursue me to some extent.) People might assume I went after women of short stature, but nope. It just worked out that way.

I am 6'6" and enjoy tall women. Not just to match up size wise but it would seem that females like to have a taller mate so a woman near 6' tall might pay more attention to me than her more petite sisters who enjoy the same feeling even when the guy is 5'5"

I hadn't really noticed (I'm 5'5"-so average).
My guess would be that they preferred to be taller for psychological reasons, but like I said, I haven't heard of this.

Well, I have 2 brothers... One prefers short girls and the other like tall amazon like girls.
I guess it really all depends. I'm 5'8 and I have no problem getting guys. I actually get more attention than my shorter friends do. We went out once and I wore heels and was like 6 ft tall and all of the guys were calling me "6ft" and they were trying to hit on me and not my friends who were like 5'4-5'5.
But all in all, it's a matter of preference I think.
