My mother-in-law has been diagnosed in early stages of Alzheimers, and my husband is devastated. Her new husband is not getting her proper treatment - keeping doctor's appointments, making sure she takes her medication, etc - and my husband and his sisters are upset. Do they have any legal rights? They want to help, but their step-father insists that he can handle everything alone and has told them, in so many words, to butt out of "his" business.

Your son can go to court and request that a conservator be appointed to look after her interests.

It's not the sort of thing he wants to try to do on his own though, especially if his step-Dad is going to fight it, so he'll need to hire a lawyer.
