If it isn't, it should be. It's called fraternizing, and even if the student is over 18, he or she should be off limits to the teacher!

It isn't illegal to go out. It is illegal to engage in sexual activity if you aren't of legal age. Do you live in a country where the legal age of consent is 16? If so, then the only real problem isn't that of it being illegal but of it being unprofessional. If it is their student then they could lose their job if their relationship goes beyond the student/teacher level. It is still usually frowned upon by the academic world as the teacher can still unduly influence the students grades through other teachers.

Illegality depends on the state or county, but school districts ALL have a policy against a teacher dating anyone at that school. It is also ill-advised for any teacher to date any student under 18 and if caught can often result in termination on a "morals clause" charge--it is just really stupid to do.
It is also against many college's policies for a professor/instructor to date anyone at the school who could be in a class with the instructor (in the same major, etc.). This type of dating can and does lead to sexual harassment charges. Also very stupid to do.

I don't know about collage age but SIXTEEN GET REAL OF COURSE.I'm thinking you must be the student because I would hope a teacher wouldn't even have to ask such a thing.
Why would you want to go out with someone so far out of your age range? There are laws against such things for a reason. It puts the young person at a serious dis-advantage.Also its natural for you to get a crush on a teacher that relates well and is awesome looking;>).But they are in an authority position and that just wouldn't be right.
Just enjoy having such a kool teacher that I'm sure you'll remember always.Find some one in your age range at least you'll be on level ground.

There are several teachers in my geographical area that tried it with high school kids. They are now doing 5-10 YEARS in the cross-bar hotel; the sheriff is their principal. Two were high school football coaches.
Why would a teacher be stupid enough to blow all that time and money, spent on college and license, only to lose it on a student? Lots of times the kid gets sent to juvenile corrections. If you have any ideas about a date with your teacher, THINK TWICE.
Once arrested, the teacher goes on the list with other sexual predators and isn't always welcome back into the community.

YES - it's called "statuatory rape" or (more recently) "criminal sexual activity". Persons under the age of 18 (17, in some states) are not considered "consenting" adults, and anyone over the legal age who engages in sexual activity (the law is often open to interpretation on what is exactly "sexual activity", so it could even mean holding hands) with someone underage is breaking the law. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE SEX WITH THE MINOR TO BE CHARGED.
It may vary from case to case, but a teacher who gets involved with someone under age can be arrested, charged, and listed forever more as a sex offender. I know someone personally to whom this happened in Illinois. He is now listed as a sex offender, lost his job and any future opportunities he may have had as an educator, and didn't even sleep with this girl.

Depends on the state (or country).
Morally, however, it's wrong. A student-teacher relationship should never exceed that of a friendship or professional relationship.

if it is a student at their school it may not exactly be illegal but it is against rules.. now the age limits are illegal.. under the age of consent. and with that each state is different.

I would think so. If not illegal, probably immoral if he or she was the teacher's student.

Schools have rules about teachers/administrators not dating students, regardless of age.
States have laws about adults having physical relationships with minors.
