My boyfriend has really stubborn stubble - he has tried most disposables and a couple of electric (Braun Philishave etc) as well as a cut-throat, but still looks like desperate dan after an hour and often finds it painful to shave. The only time he has had a good shave has been a professional one at a Turkish barber, but that's a bit far to go every day!
Any advice gratefully received...

I have recently started using the (cant remeber the name without going to the bathroom) battery powered five blade razor. It is great when I use it in conjunction with an aftershave lotion/balm but the stubble does still start growing back quite quickly but not as bad as the other razors I have used. I think as a dark person it is something he will have to live with, as I and others have!

Well... I'm 63 and have a long experience of your boy friends' problem. I wash my face, and particularly chin, first. Rinse thoroughly in water as hot as I can tolerate and apply a good size dollop of THICK shaving gel. Forget about Gillette, Palmolive or supermarket own labels. Go for a German gel from ALDI or LIDLS'. Use a disposable razor with a FIXED BLADE. Forget about 'contour' wobbly blades They're only for ladies and bum fluff. I use BIC sensitive. Only use the razor once. You should be able to afford 10p a day! Most importantly get in there quick for a kiss and cuddle before the scouring pad has time to grow again. Good luck. I've had nearly 50 years of this problem.

Instead of shaving cream, get him shaving oil. Gillette makes a 5 blade razor called Fusion. My boyfriend's had good results with it.
Using a warm washcloth to steam his skin for 5 minutes before his shave will help him get a close shave as well.

Bailey, I have heavy 5 oclock shadow at noon too. I got this gillette (i think) quattro razor sent to me in the mail. It works great!! Its got 5 blads, which is a little over the top but man if this thing wont do it he needs laser treatement. Its actually better than the Mach 3 I was using. And thats a good razor! Keep him away from electrics... they just dont get it down close.

I like the Schick Quatro. But I think that if he shaves only once every other day his beard will become less thick and I think that if he is trying to have a less thick beard he should only use an electric shaver. I would say Remington Electric.

whichever razor you choose, just make sure you run it under cold water before each stroke. Because cold water contracts the metal, keeping the edge keen. Also, failing to prepare is preparing to fail; in that you need to soften your bristles before you try to cut them. I have the same problem and I find that leaving the foam on for one minute before shaving does the trick. Also some say that hair conditioner works well.
