If they have any value or could be used for a class I would love to donate them. Who or what kind of class should I look for ?

I'll tell you how, not that it matters-a few years ago this man died leaving the rocks in a pile, someone else bought the house and couldn't sell the rocks- he asked if we wanted them come get them,we did!

Wow, you are lucky. You could look around, ask some teachers of geography, many study geology as well and would have some idea how they could be used.

Geology classes would maybe take them. If they are small rocks sell them on Ebay...there is a market for everything. Another place you can get rid of them is within the freecycle network. Under yahoo groups, search for freecycle and your city or nearest big city name. This website is designed for people who no longer have a use for something to make arrangements to give it to someone else, thus keeping it out of landfills. A great organization.

You could maybe donate them to someone for there garden path. Or maybe a pet store might buy them from you as they use pretty rock in fish tank ect. Nice gesture though, one more thing who and why would some one put you in there inheritance for rocks....Very interesting...

Contact you local high school or private school.. If you get an idea of what they are worth you can get a tax donation credit

Colleges as well would be highly interested

If you lived in chicagoland I'd say drive by my house and drop them off :)

You're kidding, right?

Well, I would tell you to give them to my school. We live in oil-country and they might be appreciated. (Western Oklahoma State College) I don't think they could afford to purchase and ship the lovely donation!

I would love to have them and know where they originated.

I don't know if you're looking for money, but it's harder to donate to a poor school.

Look for a mid-range school, send pics with your offer. Was the collector famous? Was it part of a pioneer collection? If so, include that info in your offer.

Schools will have to pay for transport, yes? They don't have the money.

Check with geology departments at nearby universities..

Further, many have VALUE.. You may wish to truly know what you have, first..
