There are people who are called social workers who did not get a degree in it. The ones who got a degree in it work on social problems. Some specialize in various areas. They end up being the biggest support of those who are down trodden. They try to make systems work for people. Sometimes this is not possible because it is beyond their control. As a profession, they speak up for people who's needs are not being met. Social Workers and many other professionals have to report various types of abuse because it is required by law. If they don't, they have a chance of losing their jobs and losing their licenses. Even though this is very difficult, someone has to speak up for the ones who are not able to speak for themselves, especially children.

This is of course an interestin g question.

Soical work in the UK today is a product of history.

Generally UK social workers are badly trained and poorly resourced. Add in a heavy workload and you get a modern social worker post.

They are a bit like the British motor industry which was poorly equiped badly lead and lost sight of what it was there for. Then the workers were blamed for not being able to make bad designs, on 50 year old equipment as well as their better trained foreign counterparts could make modern cars with modern tools.

SW is however unlikely to become extinct as SW are there to blame when something goes wrong

most social workers are hateful people, but like anything else, there are a few good ones out there. I can definitely understand someone walking into a worker's offfice with a gun and just start firing away.

Most social workers are socially inept and would find difficulty getting any other work. Think of social work as a support system for the providers and it makes a little more sense.

social workers are destructive towards the family unit. They wreck havoc. So they are a thorn on the heals of humanity.

They are the gap between government and guardian for the child or a person who needs more direction.

I see them as a Social society friend to those who have no friend.
