Well, it depends how persistent the odors are. Your walls and carpets will carry residue. The air in the house will also need to be filtered.

For carpets, sprinkle borax on and left sit for about 30 minuets. Then vacuum. Walls, actually, the best cleaner for those would be a Magic Eraser. And just in case, a fresh coat of paint. In drawers place fresh dryer sheets. In closets, add mothballs or ceder blocks. Dust frequently with a wax to help remove pollutants that may be on furniture. Launder your drapes using a cup of borax and regular detergent.

A freshener on a timer will also help remove and control odor. You might need one in each room though. You can also put a specialized filter in our heating/cooling filter which and make the whole house smell of a certain fragrance. And by the way, make sure you have a fresh filter in there!

Febreze and other odor removing products are probably not going to work as your whole house will probably smell.. and they will require gallons to remove any odor.

Such an odor is not at all easy to remove. A lot of the smell comes from the thick tarry deposits that cling on walls, and textiles.

Joss sticks or incense cones will give off a lovely smell and will seep into the fabric of the building just as the cigarette smoke has. Literally, fight smoke with smoke.
I used to run a B&B which was non-smoking but people still did it in the rooms, and I found that the joss stick method worked much better than Febreeze, chemical air fresheners etc.

If you have carpet, it may need to be cleaned.

Walls can be washed with a heavy duty cleaner like water and borax. Ceilings maybe washed. Painting for last resorts.

And all your furnace vents may need to be cleaned.

Candles, air fesheners, fabreeze - they just mask the smell so you need to clean all the stuff in your house to smell clean. Cigarette smoke leaves a film on everything over time so you need to clean it off or it stays.

edit: I meant furnace ducts

Just air the place and wash any fabrics you can that the smell might be clinging to - curtains, cushion covers etc.

I smoke but I don't in the house and I can't stand the smell!

Don't let people smoke in your house again - turf them outside!

Don't smoke.

Neither me or my fella smoke, but his mum does and sometimes when she comes to stay she'll try to sneak a couple in her bedroom.

I've tried everything to reduce the smell, i even bought one of those air purifiers... at the end of the day the only thing to get rid of it is lots of time and fresh air.

Have the carpets cleaned. Wash the walls. It may take time but smoke sticks to the walls and unless you clean the residue off it will continue to smell.
