According to this article 45% is best. I tend to agree with that estimate. I know our home varies from 40 to 50 percent most of the time.

The recommended level is from 30-50%. Less than 30 you get dry skin, static electricity, etc. Above 50% mold and things can grow. Also it is better to be at the low end in the summer and the high end during the winter. For more info, check out the air quality page at www.hvac-for-beginners.com

We prefer 45-55% relative humidity, especially in the winter when everything is so dry.
