Do you agree or disagree? Someone once said that if someone is always late to either school, work, meetings, appts., etc, that is is a weakness in character-give me your thoughts on this. I once used to be a person that was always shaking hands with the clock and currently I tend to be early at least by 15 minutes wherever I go, but have you ever heard of that saying and how do you think it would apply??

Unfortunately, being late does show weakness in your character. It’s something that some one has to hold over your head. You can be the best worker in your department but if you’re always late to work that would be recognized as-well. It also shows poor time management skills.

I agree it is a weakness of character and also a form of arrogance. Being chronically late conveys that the late person believes they are somewhat superior and the world should be on their clock. The late person gets some sort of conscious or subconscious reward for this behavior. We are all in control of what time we arrive to obligations and some try to make you believe thats just how they are, they can't control it and I don't believe. Punctuality is a strong characteristic and lateness is rude, arrogant and a very weak personal characteristic.

Constantly being late is a weakness of character that stems from lack of discipline and disregard for other people's time. It also does not reflect well on the person because people tend to think of him/her as being unreliable.

And trust me, in the working world being known as unreliable is a big career setback.

I disagree. I once heard a counselor saying that if a person is chronically late for everything, they actually tend to be conceited. The mindset for this is they think they are so important that it does not matter to anyone else if they are late; it only matters that they got there.

I think that it could be that they are conceited enough to feel that way or they are somewhat lazy.

I think chronic lateness stems from lack of organization, lack of sense of time, rudeness, or total disregard for others. The latter two are character flaws, the first two can be rectified.

It's unacceptable behavior. It's disrespectful of a person to be late or to early for an appointment.

Well it's rude.
Kinda like saying you're not important enough for me to be on time.
