It is 20 years, not 7.

Also you need to occupy it AND pay all the property taxes on it. If the power company is allowing you to pay the taxes (which I doubt, I bet they are paying), and you live there for the next 20 years then it is yours.

Otherwise the phone company granted you an Easement, which is NOT ownership.

What you are referring to is "squatters rights" and to obtain a piece of property in that matter usually takes anywhere from 20 to 30 years.

However, obtaining property in this manner is extremely rare and you would be running into a problem if you tried to have the deed to it transferred into your name.

You are referring to the concept of adverse possession of real estate. It's not anywhere near as simple as you think it may be. Generally, the period of EXCLUSIVE possession and maintenance is at least twenty years, and you have to have proof that you have maintained it, paid the taxes on it (as if it were yours) and a host of other things. In order to obtain possession, you will need to go to court to have an adverse possession decree granted in your name.

Adverse possession is defeated by the phone company when they give you the right to occupy the land.
