While sewing a lady took a sewing needle and placed it in the corner of her mouth. She got preoccupied with a few other things and when she went to get the needle from her mouth it was gone. She looked through her clothes, the couch she was sitting on and the floor surrounding her and was unable to find it. She was having some pains in her throat annd the next day it the pains were further down her throat and the next day the pain was under her ribs. Is this truely possible?

In theory I would imagine that it's possible to swallow anything accidentally. I'm sure A&E departments all over the country have seen a plethora of items that have been swallowed. In fact, there are several reported cases of needles being swallowed. See the link below.
You should tell the person to go to the hospital and be x-rayed as it can be very dangerous and cause lots of problems.

It's likely she let it fall from her mouth... If she swallowed it, she would have known it... counging and spasms of the stomach would've ensued automatically even if she wasn't aware it was slipping down her throat. If it got inside her also, it wouldn't be moving from one region to the next... it'd have lodged at some point and only get pushed further into that point if she tried swallowing something. And it'd be likley that an immune response would have resulted in some local swelling and pain which would have required medical attention. So, no, she didn't swallow... she dropped it.
