The sole is a form of consciousness that can be transferred from point to point, however, the sole needs a vehicle with which to carry it. After death, your sole, if a vehicle is not found, will return to its creator of life, the sun, which is why one should never go into the light! Happy? Or confused?

Many questions were asked in the ancient Hindu texts about
the nature of Parama Atama (infinite soul, or Almighty) and
Atma (soul). In the olden days, Gurus used to put these
questions to disciples to test their knowledge.

What is the constituent material of Almighty? All created
materials are subject to decay and annihilation, Almighty
is above the influence of decay and annihilation. He
is eternal.

Then is Almighty a void? In terms of material
characteristics, Almighty is void (Soonya).

Can this lead to the logic that Almighty is not there?
No. Almighty is there. He is consciousness, the infinite
consciousness. The Atma which is a finite piece of Almighty,
according to Advaita Vedanta - the personal consciousness.
Soul was created in the likeness of Infinite Soul.

Since Atma is only a minute piece of Almighty, is it
subjected to annihilation? No. Atma is also eternal.

Since the soul is your multidimensional selfness, it is possible to talk about or connect with whatsoever nature you might conjure. The soul being your beingness of the Source, which I call the One/Love/God, it is thus unlimited, however your human beingness might be limited in understanding the unlimitedness and how to approach stretching itself to unlimitedness while on this earth ball. The trick is to trust your soul/self and rely upon its supplying whatsoever you direct it to. Choose and direct and is shall be made manifest. Perhaps easy to think about, yet more difficult to nuture and relax into the acceptance of that beingness. Lots of words just saying, if you desire something - trust your soul/self to get it for you by just declaring your choice for it.

Talking about the nature of something presumes that we've established its existence. In the matter of the soul, I would say that is far from being the case.

1. Soul as aspect of the one Ego, God. Plotinus described this realization with his "One Mind Soul" as description of all that really is.

2. The individual soul as extension of God, One Mind Soul, with the ability to make right choice. An example of right choice is a person, a pure son, choosing Truth, Love, Life, as desirable, learning to "be" Truth, Love, Life, i.e. "reflect" them by Soul-individuation.

3. Soul-individuation is as Yogananda's Self-realization; his "Autobiography of a Yogi" and http://www.yogananda-srf.org discuss this.

4. The soul or ordained soulfield initiative of God promises salvation, Self-elevation, for those souls electing Truth, Life, Love...the "keeping of My Word."

5. The soul is known by all who have memories of their inner child, for that vibrancy is the soul. When the childlike wonder at the stars, at a blade of grass, at a butterfly, the child's love for its parents and grandparents, the child's sense of fairness and justice, and so on, are re-cognized by the growing-in-Grace youth, and championed as the true, the real self, then the soul prospers and increases, much as did the youthful Jesus and others.

6. The ad-utl or ad-ultimate is the wise steward and champion of his or her inner child's joy, sense of purity, truth, intelligence, and so on. Then the two remain one, even as Jesus called God Abba, "dad." The stewardship includes both a oneness continuum with childlike enthusiasm and a willingness to shepherd one's enthusiasm for periods, if not continual being, in the Light, Love, and Truth of God's Mind, "letting this Mind abide in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." (Saint Paul). Thus are we Sons and Daughters of God, children of the Light.

7. If the inner child is neglected or spoiled unto childishness, the inner child is "lost." (The soul that sins, dies, or does not realize and continue with God, Good.) "Citizen Kane" is a fictional example of how a little child truly loved its "Rosebud" (a name/symbol of the Holy Spirit), its sled, and for the rest of its ad-ult life was turned away from any such inner sense, innocence, joy, by cares of running a large business, in which it found no childlike enthusiasm. At its passing, "Rosebud" was what it remembered as being of value to it.

8. We don't want this for our children, we don't want it for ourselves. Yet it requires wisdom to guide the child between what "Holden Caulfield" termed "phoney" and what spoils the child.

You might find C. S. Lewis' traditional Christian treatment of the inner sense, one's typically waking subconscious, which becomes the consciousness in dreams and after passing on, in his novella "The Great Divorce." Likewise, "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, "Creativity: Artistic and Spiritual," O. M. Aivanhov, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, "Babies Remember Birth," David Chamberlain, Ph.D., and "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, are all worthwhile. Keeping a dream diary or record, as Ann Ree Colton explains in her excellent "Watch Your Dreams," and/or a gentle type of meditation, such as given at http://www.easwaran.org encourage soulfield harmony, healing, wholeness, and awareness. As Plato noted, the highest goal of philosophy is to realize God, as did his follower, Plotinus, and as have e.g. Martin Buber, per his "I-Thou."

Keeping "soul" whole is one of the most worthwhile activities a human is able to encourage. Asking God to make one a better person, to teach and protect one's soul, gives one's free-will permission and request to God, which permits a greater drawing nigh.

The connection between God, One Mind Soul, and the human body temple, is experimentally evidenced in Dr. William Tiller's "Psychoenergetic Science," http://www.tiller.org Dr. Elizabeth Mayer's "Extraordinary Knowing," and Dr. Olga Kharitidi's "The Master of Lucid Dreams," to note three worthwhile authors among many.

"The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, and a related site, http://www.divinecosmos.com also speak to soul in Matter, or Mater. "The Field," Lynne McTaggart, gives a popular summary of recent mainstream biophysics, which dovetails with Dr. Tiller's work, the work of Dr. Dean Radin ("Entangled Minds"), and others.

best regards and good fortune,

j.
