I would like to take a poster that I got at a concert and transfer the entire colored poster to fabric so that I can make a quilt, but I have no idea how to do it or if it can be done. please help!

I would like to take a poster that I got at a concert and transfer the entire colored poster to fabric so that I can make a quilt, but I have no idea how to do it or if it can be done. please help!
I am in the process of trying to find out who produced the poster so that I can obtain permission since the poster probably has a copyright.

I wouldn't. I've never had much success with longevity when transferring pictures like that. If you are going to go to the trouble of making a quilt, I recommend you copy the pic and make it in a more conventional way, either by applique or embroidery. Medieval quilts were rarely patchwork as we know it, but made from large sheets of fabric, where the design was the actual quilting stitches. Perhaps that would be better for you. You'd hate to put the work in and come out with a poor quality quilt and a ruined poster.
Perhaps others can give you better advice on how to do it the way you've asked about, but I wouldn't recommend it myself.

You can sub-divide the poster into approx 8x10 squares and print it on fabric and then quilt the fabric squares. Make sure whatever you are using is not water soluble.

Of course you've checked with the people who produced the poster and secured permission to use their copyrighted work.
