hi Oscar;) ok here's my take lol, murder is for the crazy and maybe really jealous or mad people,,,I think murder most of the time would be for jealousy, money, etc,,to be assassinated or have a contract on your head would mean you are either pretty powerful or you pissed off someone pretty powerful like the mafia or something or someone in politics,,,to sum it up a murder is a "non professionally killing" an assassination sound's more like a "professional" job,,,,,

The difference is not the level of fame but the reason behind it. If a person is killed because of his/her beliefs or office then it is an assassination. A president can be murdered. One president is rumored to have been killed by his wife thru means of poison. I do not know if the story is true. I have never seen anything to support that. However, in that case it would not be an assassination. It would be a murder.

It's not a matter a fame, but a matter of power. Generally defined, assassination is the kiling of a political figure. Wikipedia says: "Assassination is the murder of a political figure.[1] An added distinction, among assassination and other forms of killing is that the assassin has an ideological or political motivation, though many assassins (especially those not part of an organisation) also demonstrate insanity; other motivations are money (contract killing), revenge, or a military operation."

I'd say politician famous, you know, somebody with a political message who has the charisma to have a following...
Anybody else, e.g actors, musicians, housewives, clowns just go in the murder category...

Maybe...

I think you need to be in a crowded area and shot from and high and far distance for you to be "assassinated" rather than murdered.
=p

assassins are hired killers, highly skilled and professional. i don't think being famous changes what its called but an assassin is just the sort of person needed to kill a high profile person.
