You might check out Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. This is paranormal romance - the Dark Hunter is someone without a soul; his/her job is to protect humans from Daimans (vampires) and other supernatural creatures.
It's not heavy on the vampires, but they are a lot of fun with memorable characters and pretty good storylines.
Another writer you might check is Laurell Hamilton. She has a series about Anita Blake, a vampire executioner with a "day" job of raising the dead. She's human, but her boyfriend is a werewolf and she later gets entangled with the Master of the City, a vampire named Jean-Claude who decides he wants Anita.
The first books in the series were very good - around 8 or 9, the plotline begins to go and they become very sexual. Some people like this (I think her Meredith Gentry series is strong in this, too - the main character is a Fairy - I haven't read any of these.) It was at this point when I was referred to the Dark Hunter books. They are relationship books, so they have their share of the sex, but in one it's romantic and the other necessity for the character (Laurell Hamilton's later books).
I added the links: first is Sherrilyn Kenyon and second Laurell Hamilton.

An awesome romance-fiction book series is Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. There are three books in the series so far- Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. They are about a girl named Bella who is dating a vampire named Edward, and all sort of problems arise in the relationship, like one example is Bella wants to become a vampire but Edward doesn't want her to be one.

The Mediator series by Meg Cabot is about a girl falling in love with a ghost- it's very interesting!!
It's about a 16-year-old girl named Suze Simon. Suze is a mediator, whose role is to help ghosts finish their business on earth so they can pass on to the afterlife. To this end, she can see, touch, communicate with, hit, punch, and 'kick ghost butt' when she has to. The series begins just after Suze's widowed mother marries Andy Ackerman, when she has moved to Carmel, California, to live in an old house complete with three stepbrothers. To make matters worse, her bedroom is haunted by an attractive male ghost named Jesse, who died 150 years earlier. Suze remembers that back in New York a fortune teller had told her that she was a mediator (which proved correct) and that she would only fall in love once but it would last for an eternity. Her one love for eternity just might be Jesse. But does he love her back?
There are 6 books in the series:
Shadowland
Ninth Key
Reunion
Darkest Hour
Haunted
Twilight
I hope you like the Mediator books! This series is perfect for Twilight fans and those who love Romance/Fantasy genres =)
