Do you mean looking in your direction? Oh! I get it; you want to stop looking at your cheat sheet when the teacher looks your way. That won't work because all teachers have eyes in the back of their head.

Do you mean "someone is exactly in front of me - in the direction I am going?" At the present time there are reasonably good sensors - mostly ultrasonic but some laser - that will detect any object in front of you. There are fewer that will reliably pick out a person because that normally requires infrared and while it can be done with an IR camera, pure sensors which do not require interpretation get confused when the background is about the same temp as the person: in cold weather a person all bundled up will have a cold surface while in hot weather the person will not have enough contrast with the 90 degree or so background.
This is a problem in making a sensor for the blind - not to mention getting the info to the person.
