I close my eyes and give my self a hug, where no one can see me. I imagine I'm with the girl of my dreams. I can literally feel the love in side of me. Or I hug one of my female friends. Hugs make everything better.

I call my mommy! I always have something to say to her and she always responds in just the perfect way. Our conversations always result in hysterical laughter. And that's just what I need. Makes me feel giddy for a good few hours. If I drink a frappuccino the giddiness lasts even longer.
Jogging helps, too. Get those endorphins out of hiding.
Mooosic!
But really, the thing that cheers me up the most is positive interactions with others. Just getting a genuine smile from somebody feels so good. And it's a chain effect...because being giddy just leads to more of these happy encounters.
Have a good day.
edit: On the other hand, there are activities that provide great entertainment but leave me feeling empty and hollow. Most of these are solitary activities, such as watching T.V. and logging onto Yahoo Answers. Provides distraction from my problems, but in the end I always feel more useless and lonely than I did before.

I'm surprised by all the alcohol solutions - no wonder there is so much depression.
I use music quite a bit. It is more effective playing an instrument or singing to make your own music. I also like swimming, walking, and doing creative pursuits (I paint). You may not feel like doing any of these things when you're down, but that's the point - you do the activity to change the mood.

Cuddle up with a soft blanket and light a fire. In the fireplace, I mean. If I was an arsonist, maybe just lighting fires would make me happy.

I've thought about that. One day I just decided that being happy wasn't a matter of what other people were doing, it was MY CHOICE. No one can make you unhappy except for yourself.

Music. Just popping in my fav song or a song that brings back good memories can change my mood drastically.
Edit: Still Breathing, and Lanie- AHAHAHA!!! So true!

Usually if I am depressed, I go for beer. Always "loosens' you up.
If not, I go and treadmill for 45 minutes. That makes more "happy chemicals" in my brain!
