William Duke of Normandy won the Battle of Hastings. he was fighting Harold the second of England. I think William had a better chance of winning because Harold's soliders marched from the south of England to York (North) and fought a battle and walked back down to the south of England to fight another battle. The Normans had many tricks which they played several times and these tricks suceeded. All in all, Harold died and William Duke of Normandy won the throne!

Since you answered your own question, i can say that one of the tricks the Normans used was to feign retreats. The less disciplined formations under Harold fell for it and were slaughtered. While its true that Harold fought Hadrada in the north, he still could've won if he kept his shield line intact and not have fallen for the feigned retreats.
