My brother-in-law is a motorcycle officer. There is a lot that goes into deciding what kind of bike they ride. Every motorcycle is tested to its limits with equipment to ensure that it perform up to department standards (see the link below). If you become a motorcycle officer you will be provided a department issued motorcycle. What you ride on your own personal time is your decision.

Here in Texas the motorcycle cops ride Honda, Kawasaki, Harley Davidson, BMW, Victory and just the other day I seen Two Yamaha V-Max Police Bikes.
If I remember right, When I worked at this Motorcycle shop a lot of the Motorcycle Officers buy their own bikes(Police Editions) I think they just had to be the departments colors. I think the requirements are different for every state, except for Alaska it seems their requirements are "If it can go through snow and not get stuck" it can be a police vehicle.

I know that while I was in Oklahoma I saw a Busa that was a cop bike. I do not live there and never have so maybe someone from there could tell you more. Here in WI all of the cop bikes are Harleys. Harleys are assembles here, the parts are made all over the world most people do not know that. They think they are American made??? when really they are just like the rest, China, Japan where ever). Our state only uses Harleys because they want to support a local product. I hope they get a lower price because if they do not it is a huge waste of tax money. Nice thing is that you never have to worry about them catching you unless you're driving a Yugo or something like that:)

No. If you ever do graduate from a police academy and get an assignment to the Motor division, you'll be riding whatever the department issues.

They'll probably tell you no for insurance reasons. The typical "crotch rocket" doesn't have any place to store extra gear: road flares, caution tape, first aid kit. Also no place to mount a radio.

You'd have to check with the particular agency - but odds are, I'd say "no"
There are restrictions on exactly what type of vehicles an officer can use as their "duty vehicle" ... and I doubt that your "crotch rocket" would qualify.

Nope. You'll get a bike from the police motor pool. It'll probably be one of the "police special" models made by Kawasaki or BMW or Harley-Davidson.
