There is no way to say yes or no to this. He will NOT make the Hall of the 1st ballot if it happened today. I think he should be in simply because anyone should be in who was (famous hence Hall of FAME) enough to contribute something good or bad to the game. It's important we recognize the skills these players had, but also document the flaws they had as well so future generations learn from their mistakes. At least they can be used as positive role models after the fact, even if they weren't at the time.
Remember Bonds still could be indicted, so if that happens, he's screwed. If he somehow avoids it then he should be ok. What bothers me is the amount of $$ he's paying his former trainer to keep his mouth shut and sit in jail to protect him. There's no way if I was Mr. Anderson that I would do that. He's gotta be getting a PRETTY penny.

If he retired in 96' before ever taking a single drop of the cream and the clear, he was probably already a first ballot Hall of Famer. You can hate on him all you want, I do it too, but you cannot deny that he was/is one of the most talented players to ever take the field.
With that being said, it is unclear at this point how the voters will handle his steroid use (I left out allegedly on purpose). We already saw what they did with McGwire, they may try to make a point with Bonds as well. I'd say that there is at least a 50% chance that enough voters leave him off of their ballots for him to wait at least a year after his first ballot.

I'd say both. He deserves the shame hall, but he's going to get in to the Hall of Fame.

I think he is guilty, but they either need to come out and prosecute or just leave him alone. If they do not have the evidence then he is definately a first ballot guy, best player of the steroid era easily.

First ballot HOF without any question. The controversy will be a non issue, the only real problem he would have is if some additional evidence implicates him in the drug issue, which is not likely. The third grand jury is about to disband without an indictment and it looks like Bonds will be home free.

Hall of Fame definately. Look at his numbers even before the steriod era. If he doesn't make it, it's because they hold a grudge with the writers because he will not allow himself to get trapped in their hateful reporting.

Look at McGwire, he did not make it on the first try and Bonds has a lot more baggage than him.
