In my state.. they are trying to get an act on the ballet to vote that if two men live under one roof that they can not take legal custody of children. With the way it is written, if everyone in my family died tomorrow except for my nieces.. I could not adopt them because I live with my brother and a friend of ours. How's that for morality?

That sounds really frivolous. It seems like that legislation specifically prevents gay men from adopting. I doubt it would get passed, but then again it is Arkansas. I know what it's like down there, I lived in TN for 4 years.

I agree this is an absurd law. As a former Republican who even worked on a few Republican campaigns I can tell you that most of the Republicans I worked with on active political campaigns had absolutely nothing against gay people. There are different "wings" of the Republican party. There are the "fiscal conservatives" (these people have been very disappointed lately) who care about things like a balanced budget and a sound economy. There are also the "Law and Order" Republicans who are more likely to support someone like Rudolf Giuliani. Then, there are the so-called "Religious Right" who are mostly Salafi Christians with a few Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish people thrown in to make them look somewhat tolerant. It is this last group who are vocally opposed to GLBTQ rights. These people have had an increasing influence over the Republican Party in recent years. There are two groups within the Republican Party who have been fighting this influence though. The first is the Log Cabin Republicans who support candidates who stand up for GLBTQ rights and the Republican Liberty Caucus who promote libertarian ideals within the Republican Party.

No, being against gay marriage is a winning issue for the GOP, so don't expect them to abandon it. I am conflicted about letting gays adopt children, as I don't believe a gay home is a good environment for children, but it's better than some other living arrangements. Don't expect the GOP to give up morality issues, they don't have much else going for them, unless they embrace the fight against the illegal alien invasion.

Yes, the Christian Taliban have some control of the Republican party. It is indeed unfortunate but at least they aren't communists like those Democrats.

Anyone who would hold a fellow American down because of his moral code, no matter how immoral one sees it, if that code doesn't hurt them, is not someone I'd want to hang out with.

Typing 'ballet' while meaning 'ballot' is not a Freudian slip. Sounds like a pretty stupid law they are proposing.

yes.... and sadly the trend is swinging that way. If it keeps up, in our childrens lifetime, we will see state ordered baptism, mandated church attendance, and violence toward those "who have not accepted jesus christ as their personal lord and savior". Because far too many people see religion as a method of control as opposed to a method of self enrichment.

What is your state? I'll guess the purpose of the law is to protect children from sexual abuse by a homosexual couple.

Look more carefully at the laws in your state at Next of Kin, before you worry about confusing the two laws.
