Managers Of The Year

AL
Wedge (CLE) 116 points (named on all 28 ballots)
Scioscia (LAA) 62
Torre (NYY) 61
Francona (BOS) 13

NL
Melvin (ARZ) 119 points
Manuel (PHIL) 76
Hurdle (COL) 58
Piniella (CHC) 25
Black (SD) 4
Acta (WASH) 4
Yost (MIL) 2

Torre was named on 25 ballots, Scioscia on 24, which is interesting.

Only postseason team managers got votes in the AL, but I don't really have a quibble with that. There were a handful of strong teams and a lot of weak or average ones. The NL was much more equitable, though that doesn't mean those teams were great, because they were not. Gotta think the Mets' collapse is why Randolph didn't get ANY votes.

Among the four AL managers, only Francona did not get a first place vote.

Tomorrow, Peavy gets the NL CYA, officially.

I have no problem with Wedge or Melvin getting the award...I find it amusing that Torre got as many points as he did considering his team underperformed and finished second in their division...it is laughable that he finished just a point behind Scioscia in the voting...if you switched Torre and Francona giving Tito the 62 points and Torre the 13 I would find that more reasonable...I think two deserving coaches got the awards though.

I'd have given it to Hurdle in the NL but Melvin's the next best choice. Wedge definitely deserves it in the AL.

I think that Wedge and Melvin are very deserving of the honor....Red sox fans may have a different opinion since Francona did guide the team to a World Series title!!!

I see nothing wrong with it; they did the most with the least. Francona fans should realize that he had the best talent, he was supposed to get that out of them, under 105 wins should have been a dissapointment to them!

I think it was a good representation of the managers and the jobs that they did. I think that Hurdle deserved more credit and Uncle Charlie deserved less, the Phillies won in spite of him not because of him!

I am really surprised Manuel got more votes than Hurdle.I thought the Phils had a much better lineup than the Rockies and they whipped them in the playoffs and I'm a Phils fan.

Goodness, Clint Hurdle was third in the voting? That's almost as much of a surprise as the margain of the vote itself.
