nothing to do with morality, just that the personality type of "philosophers" is often associated with alcoholism

I have an addictive personality, so I can't ever say that I won't ever have a drug or alcohol problem again...but at one time I used to have a very bad drug problem....also used to have a drinking problem...It wasn't a problem until the tequila was all gone though! Ha ha! I would guess the % is around 65-72%. What do you think it is?

What? LOL. Do you find us so depressing? :-)

What about Religion and Spirituality? *They’re* the wine-sippers.

And clearly, Family and Relationships isn’t getting by without a touch of liquid courage.

Besides, you *know* the Political people break out the hard
stuff every time Bush gets up to bat.

Plus, rumor has it the “Pets” section drinks like fish.

Also, I’m pretty sure the druggies are trying to make it in
Music and Entertainment.

I would mention the “Beer, Wine, and Spirits” section, but we
all know none of those people are old enough to drink…

We philosophers are just YAddicts, we don’t drink and type…
often.

[Ahh, the effortless delight of stereotypes… ;-) ]

Statistics indicate that the group with the highest amount of drug users are males between the ages of 18-25 (link 1). For alcoholics it is much the same, though at the slightly older 25-44 range (link 2).

If you want to find the section with the most drug users, then, I would suggest that you find the section with the most males between 18-25. I rather doubt they typically hang out in philosophy...

If you're going just on reputation, I thought authors were the ones who were typecast as people who drank themselves to death. Hemingway, Poe, Crane, Roethke, Melville, Fitzgerald, Faulkner... need I go on? (link 3)

i really dont think the personality type of a philosopher is associated with drugs and alchohol, nor is the use of either necessarily a problem, its all in how you use either
i assume you mean the noted mind altering drugs that are currently illegal without perscriptions? as i am sure many in this category would recognize that most all of use ingest drugs and chemicals on a daily basis, besides the ones we take, our food, air , our whole environment is full of drugs, including that Pepsi or Coke many drink

For your info, many years ago, I went up to a friend's place and took up a 26'er of vodka...her and I had a few drinks, then her husband came home with some beer...we drank some of that, then a male friend of their's came over with some whiskey...we all had some of that...then we had some liquor. The next thing I remember, I woke up in my bed the next afternoon still buzzin'. An hour later, the aftermath hit. At that point I vowed not to drink again...our children were young and I decided that I needed to be sober for them. 2 years later, I began to drink again, but in moderation. I learned not to mix my drinks and if I got too high, I would drink large glasses of water, so as to dilute the alcohol and have no hangover the next day. In answer to your question, [I cannot answer for others on this site] but I am one person [percent wise - I cannot calculate], who drinks in moderation...not really a problem to me, because alcohol is a natural soother for myself.

Even if there is a drug thing going on its not a problem every one seems to be doing fine they have a computer internet all of these things cost money and not everybody steals to pay for their drugs which means the problem is peoples small minded narrow perceptions of drugs

Let me see, the logic goes like this.

The people who post in Philosophy are not Christians.
People who are not Christians have trouble being moral.
Therefore the people who post here have problems with drugs and alcohol.

Don't leave out sex?

Am I right or are you coming from another planet entirely?

I'll say 22%. I'll check back later for the response, but right now I'm going to pour myself a glass of wine.
