Elizabeth:
Nortons, is a resource hog and they are only good with marketing skills. Not good at finding or removing viruses.
You will have serious problems when you attempt to remove Nortons from your pc. Nortons will leave behind over 375 fragments glued to your registry, files, folders and hidden files. You must find all of them and remove or they will cause conflict with any new installation. (If you need asst., on how to remove all the files left behind, please email me and I will assist you with indepth instructions on how to find/remove.
In my spare time, I beta test for the past ten years all antivirus or antispyware programs that come out into the market.
I use an antivirus program from Beijing, China and used by the Goverment of China.
This antivirus program is light years ahead of any other antivirus program known on the market. Will kill in real time any hidden embedded trojan in any webpage or any file that you may download. Has to may features to go into.
What is really great, is that you only pay a one time fee for life of $29.99 and you will get all automatic updates daily, plus any new versions that come out for life. (I get all new versions for the one time fee).
You can test drive the software with a Lic., that will be provided to you for thirty days. If you like what you see, the you must purchase the software and you will get a new Lic., that is good for life.
Myself I no viruses in over ten years.

I like Nod32 from Eset. It isn't as demanding on system resources as most of the typical known anti virus programs. It definitely does an excellent job. Lets me know when I have come across any web site that has a virus or trojan embedded in them. Won't allow programs to run if it suspects a virus unless you override it.
Only Norton I somewhat liked was the Corporate Editions(CE) cause they don't use a lot of system resources either. McAfee isn't all that great it has allowed virus's to get on my computer.
I liked Windows Onecare I just didn't like the yearly subscription fee. Once I pay for something I don't want to keep paying. Also like their Windows Defender which is a free spyware program. These of course can be found at Microsoft.com.
Most of the free anti virus protections I have used I didn't care for cause they were system resource hogs as well. I am a hardcore gamer and need all the performance I can muster and don't want antivirus slowing me down.
Just remember just about any of the anti virus programs are only about 70% effective, some are less. Even though they try to keep up-to-date on definitions new virus's are created constantly and it takes awhile for the anti virus program designers to add the new definitions.
Try doing a anti virus comparison search and see what pops up. You may find charts that will give you an idea of what is the best program to use.

Asking on a public web board is probably not the best way to go since you are going to get alot of biased comments from unprofessionals and non-techs.
I hear this complaint often and quite frankly the problem here is that you have not taken the time to learn how to properly configure the program you have.
The bigger "bears" like Norton and McAfee have tons of informational alerts that can and probably should be disabled. They also require some diligence on your part in going through the preferences and making up your own mind on how to configure them. For instance, disabling the splash screen.
If you are "having alot of problems" then the cause again is something you are or are not doing... such as not allowing the program to properly update and keeping it updated.
The bottom line here is that you are going to have the same problem no matter what program you use unless you take the time to learn, use, and properly configure the program you have. And, if you paid for a program like Norton and haven't taken advantage of the technical support you paid for... then again, this is user error.
Good Luck

.....Firstly educate yourself about anti-spyware, anti-malware, and anti-virus -softwares. I and some of my friends have found that Norton conflicts with downloads and does not find everything that is harmful to your computer. USE an aftermarket firewall....like ZoneAlarm or ? Toggle off the internal firewall that comes with Windows. USE Mozilla-Firefox or Opera for browsing the internet instead of Internet Explorer, (both free). Buy the professional versions of software protection to enlist the use of their respective active "shields". If pocketbook prevents then use the "Free" versions.
I employ from Grisoft: Antivirus7.5, Antispyware. WindowsDefender from Microsoft. Ad-aware from Lavasoft, and Zonealarm firewall from Zonelabs.
Good luck !!!!

I would suggest System Mechanic Professional 7 Gold. About as expensive as all of the others but offers much more. Not only does it have its own antivirus and firewall, but it deletes spyware and adware, monitors your system, gives you details on how to speed up your computer, and it increases the efficiency of the machine. 5 Stars!

use Windows LiveOne Care. It is the best to use it. Never slows your computer down. And just download google pop-blocker. IT will mostly block all of the pop-up you get. Windows live onecare really helps. I am using for long time.

norton sucks get rid of it . I recommend avira it's free www.free-av.com it can detect 95 percent of malware , also
avast is not bad. A lot of people here are going to recommend
AVG and they are noobs who dont know anything , avg has
a poor detection rate.
