It means that you are incredibly deep in thought, replaying what's been going on in your life so far and how you could have changed it, thinking about where you'll be in ten years, or pondering the meaning of life. It's probably the most focused you would ever be on one subject, trying to find an answer to an unsolvable problem.

A good losing of self-consciousness is when you're in the zone, happily engaged in an activity, no sense of time passing.

A less positive losing of self could be due to lack of championing of one's inner sense, that childlike innocence of one's inner childhood joy, love, tenderness, purity, sense of justice, and so forth. It is the responsibility of the ad-ult, the ad-ultimate, to know the good goals, e.g. divine Love, Mercy, Truth, which the inner child prefers, but which may be covered over with glamour or whatever more synthetic self-ishness chasing after lesser things.

If you don't like being lost within yourself, give it to God, and ask God to make you a better person. The desire and extent of your receptivity will help your self-realization, what Edgar Cayce termed moving from the "little me" to the "great Me."

You might find "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com worthwhile, also "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, "The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis, "Man, Master of His Destiny," O. M. Aivanhov, "Babies Remember Birth," David Chamberlain, Ph.D., "Watch Your Dreams" and "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, and "The Master of Lucid Dreams," Dr. Olga Kharitidi. All are great books.

Same way it is to be lost outside yourself. You venture into unfamiliar territory and can't seem to find your way back to where you were. Being lost within yourself isn't always a bad thing...

I would think it means that the most important thing going on in your life is you. Weather it be problems or you are just consumed with the idea that you have a new relationship.
Auntie Fran has cancer and your mom is a wreck but you really didn't notice you just knew that you may look great Sat.
night for your new date. (or your old one)You could feel like you want to die because your boy or girl friend just dumped you and your best friend calls and says please help me I died my hair and it is purple. Normally you would be there to rescue your friend but right now it seems trivial compared to what you are dealing with. best wishes

As far as I know it means that when you are lost within youself you do not know where to go, where to turn, what to do. It is basically also when you do not really know who you are because you are trying to be someone else. You have lost youself trying to accomplish something almost impossible.

It's kind of like you went to an area in your brain where you're not familiar with and you don't know how to get back to reality. Basically people who get lost within themselves are people who let their mind daydream so much they wander to an area they are unfamiliar with. 8^D
