i have just been charged £100 for a cort sumems how can it cost that mutch ? and can i as the court for them to prove this cost ?

councils do have to justify their costs...& they are audited by government bodies...all monies have to be accounted for - but they dont have to justify their costs to you.

Do you mean Court fees or Lawyers costs. If it is a civil action those costs are laid down by Statutory Instrument. If it is a Magistrates Court Action for say Council tax I do not know. However you will be suprised how quickly costs add up in even small cases. Sadly they actually bear no relationship to the amount of money involved

Yes they have to justify their costs to the District Auditor appointed by the Audit Commission. The Council Tax Payer foots the bill for lawyers costs, but if it's for non payment of Council Tax for example you will have to pay the Court costs.

Court fees are fixed by the court. I could tell you approximately how much you owed.

OTOH If you had paid, or at least spoke to the council I doubt they would have issued in the first place.
