The differential diagnosis of infants who "fail to thrive" is quite extensive. The above screening tests will give your doctor an indication in which direction to look further.

Your doctor has rightly prescribed the tests to be done.Am sure, the results vl point out what is wrong..Maybe your son is suffering from lack of proper nutrition or there is some problem in his growth system such as worm infestation, infections etc.The blood and stool tests will help your doctor in placing his finger at the right point. Also,a proper diet chart as prescribed by your doctor will rectify a major part of the problem.Infants at this stage ought to gain weight much more rapidly.
However, don't panic.Such problems are common.Listen to what your doctor says and act accordingly.Everything vl b fine soon.

1. Get the stool cultre test done. May be having worms.
2. Is he getting enough mother's milk? How much urine he passes? How you will know whether his stomach is full or not? Other than mother's milk, are you giving any external food? If yes, his body may not digest that.

Hi there !
Why dont you have a chat with the consultant ?
From what you say, I presume, he is assessing the calories intake for one day, and then assess where he is losing and why he is losing ! maybe something like
malnutrition ? or to rule out some other genetic / familial disorder ?
relax...let the doctor get tensed up...let him do his work...till he comes to a conclusion, why dont you relax....!
If you find this doc's conclusion unacceptable, take a second opinion from another leading paediatrician ! that's all !
relax and relax..
hope for the best !
best wishes !

You must be very worried....there could be many reasons but I think you'll freak yourself out if you research this on your own...hard as it is, the best thing to do is to wait for the results. He could have reflux....or he may simply not eat enough...good luck.
