Out of curiosity what should make me more committed to strangers in my country and not strangers in another? Is it simply by the virtue of being on the same designated land? Though I contribute both within Canada and outside, I do so more for other countries i.e. Africa, Pakistan, India.
It is simply because that yes there is poverty here, yes there are food shortages for families but I am unaware of any disastarous rates of someone dying because of inability to access food or medical help. Same cannot be said for third-world countries. I do believe that there is a poverty problem in Canada but you do not see the handing out of free water on the most hot days of the summer in India or having special vans looking for homeless people and bringing them to shelters on freezing cold nights in third-world countries. There is always access to health care here due to no cost, preventative and emergency, something which is a blessing when compared to other countries.
There is more a welfare inclination in Developed Countries such as mine which is not the reality in the truly impoverished nations.
So yes, focus on the issues in your own country (especially one without universal health care) but the reality remains that there are countries with citizens far worse off and that arbitrary boundaries shouldnt be the deciding factor.

I agree we have problems in our country, but if you have never been anywhere else like even Mexico, then you have NO idea of how fortunate you really are to be an American.
And do you REALLY want a celebrity to be in polotics? Look at Penn and Looney
