Is it permanently dead? Or did it reboot and work? If it's still usable, it might be a one-time problem. If so, keep on keepin' on.
If it doesn't reboot, and doesn't do anything, you can take it to a repair shop and have them have a go at fixing it. Unless it's a late-model, high-end machine, I wouldn't put Vista on it. But if you can recover the data files you once had, you might be able to recover most of the data you had, and re-install windows and be up and running again.

I call it "toast." That seemed like a good name to me!
Seriously, the only time a computer of mine ever permanently died, it was because the motherboard caught on fire. I hope that was a once-in-a-lifetime event!
