In the early nineties when I heard that there was a band that "covered" Led Zeppelin songs performed in a reggae style AND the lead singer was an Elvis impersonator I just had to buy their album "Un-Led-ed" without ever hearing any of their songs. I thought that it would be comical but after playing it I was amazed how fantastic it was and I've been a fan of theirs ever since (anyone who has never heard of them should give a listen)!
Are there any other unique bands that have "covered" a rock group or rock songs, not by imitating them (like Australian Pink Floyd) or by performing parodies of their music (like "weird" Al Yankovic), but by playing someone else's music in a "different style"?
NOT looking for individual songs but whole albums (like Jeff Healey's "Cover to Cover")!
What others am I missing?

I can hardly believe how much I love that album. I have not heard them, but I believe Kronos Quartet plays classical versions of rock bands like Jimi Hendrix e.g.

Haaa haa! I saw them live once back in the early 90's. Tortelvis is hilarious!
But yeah...I'd say they are the most unique for sure. Most other cover bands would stick to the tried and true, while Dread Zeppelin went beyond that, almost bordering parody.
I think the greatest parody band of all time would be The Rutle's by the way!

Thank you for a Dread Zeppelin question. They are truly amazing with the exception of ''It's Not Unusual'' which was recorded during Tortelvis' hiatus from the band. I've seen them and thoroughly enjoyed it. They seem to me to be excellent musicians who could be taken serious if they wanted it..........check out Hayseed Dixie
