I want to make my mom a microwavable neck and shoulder wrap for christmas (not just the neck wrap) but I can't find a pattern. Does anyone know where I can find a pattern and is there anything I can fill it with besides rice?

I love these things. We make a variety of sizes so you can place them anywhere. What I like to do is make a pouch using plain muslin and then use Velcro on the outside cover. That way you can launder the cover.
We basically use squares and rectangles for ours. The larger ones go really good at the foot of your bed on cold winter nights!

Rice, once dried, will not reheat unless you soak it in water. YOu can make your own pattern to fit her by using unbleached muslin, just lay it on her, and cut and snip, allowing seam allowances...easier than you think. Damp heat is usually more effective, so you could fill it with shredded sponge, soak and wring, then microwave...you will learn timing and power very quickly...IN the final version, use polyester Gabardine fabric after you have made the muslin pattern..poly doesn't rot with time. Here is a link to the show Creative Juice and the wraps that they made: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/cr_natural_homemade/article/0,2025,DIY_13767_5058397,00.html

(Be sure your fabric is cotton or else it will melt in the microwave!) Flax seed is a good alternate filler. You can make easy wraps out of cotton socks too. Best of luck and have fun!

It's just a big horseshoe. They can also be filled with buckwheat hulls.
