Oh for heaven's sake! Excessive salt in any food can make you retain water. Lot's of pasta (chicken noodle?) might make you gain extra weight. Some people say that animal proteins cause cancer. Etcetera. You can worry about it or you can eat what tastes good and feels healthy. I think that our bodies tell us what they need. I love chicken soup too. And even more, I love a big fat healthy baby. You go for it! Don't listen to the busy bodies. Trust me, it's a waste of energy.

Okay -- so chicken soup. Chicken Potatoes or pasta celery carrots onions chicken broth These are the most common ingredients in chicken soup. Nothing there that's "harmful" -- however, canned chicken broth may be high in sodium (salt) and that can cause you to retain water. If you are making the soup -- use a low sodium chicken broth. Don't add any other salt to the soup. Use a salt substitute is you need to. Chicken soup is a great comfort food and I believe pregnancy counts as one of those times when comfort food is not only needed but should be required. Have a great pregnancy. Your doctor is your best source of information.

No, that is just silly! Chicken soup does have a lot of sodium in it, and a lot of salt can make anyone retain water, but it won't make the baby big. Eat what you like and what you crave!

Chicken soup is fine. The canned stuff has alot of sodium which is not good, but it won't hurt you or the baby, unless you have high blood pressure.
Home made soup is better for you. If you love chicken soup, made yourself a big pot and enjoy.

Like the others said, canned soups have a huge amount of salt, which can cause water retention and contribute to high blood pressure. Neither of these things will make the baby bigger, though. You can look for reduced- or low-sodium varieties of chicken soup, or make your own! Good luck and congrats!

Commercially made Chicken Soup does have a boatload of sodium and may make you retain water, however, this won't make your baby bogger. It's just a whole lotta salt but in moderation eating it is just fine. Enjoy.

Canned soups can contain a lot of sodium which can make you retain water. Maybe that's what she was referring to?

It's the high sodium that's bad for you, not the soup itself.
You can have it every once in a while, or use a low-sodium version.
