I had a complete hysterectomy and it was abdominal I had a big non cancerous tumor. I was out of work for 4 weeks. I was bored so I went back to work and I am a hairdresser and stand on my feet. Do I regret it heck no. I don't miss having those long messy draining periods.
Do I feel less of a women heck no my identity has never been attached to one part of my body.
It was a painful surgery but one you can live through. One great tip I got was get you some Phillips of magnesium it will not cramp you and you will need it.
If you need to get a hysterectomy do it and get it over with you can do it you are woman here you roar!! Good luck sister

I had a complete hysterectomy in 1990 abdominal. If you can keep from taking prescription hormones try to---------they made me gain weight so I took a natural hormone supplement for awhile. Now I take nothing. It is great not to have those awful periods every month(I would go at least 10 days --7 of which were very heavy). You do need someone to stay with you for about a week because they tell you not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds. I was out of work for a month. Good Luck!

I'm so glad I had mine. I was out of work 6 weeks, but felt fine immediately afterwards. I was very tired for those 6 weeks, however. It takes alot of energy for your body to heal. I had a hysterectomy because of fibroids which caused heavy, irregular, loooooong periods. Lots of cramping and nausea. I was never so glad as when I had it done. In fact, it was done on my birthday and it was one of the best birthday presents I've ever had :)))
It's been 15 years, and I've never once regretted it. Mine was vaginal, so there was no abdominal scar.
If you are contemplating having this done, you may want to talk with two or more surgeons to get a second opinion.
Good luck :)

I had abdominal, for numerous growing fibroid tumors. I didn't have anyone stay with me, but had a very rough time getting out of bed for a few days. I was out of work for 6 weeks- but only because my job was in retail and required me to be on my feet nonstop 10 hours a day. As for regretting it, no, not for one minute. I felt better than I had in yeasr, even through the pains of the surgery (which weren't really all that bad)

I have never regretted it. I didn't need anyone to stay with me. I had abdominal surgery. If you are going to be alone be prepared. Cook and freeze lots of meals, Make sure you have plenty of everyday items on hand. Your not going to feel like going to the store. Have things on hand to occupy yourself with. I was pretty sore, but did ok. Follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. I went back to work in about three, maybe four weeks. I don't remember exactly. You can have some pain meds for the first few days at home.

Yes, you need some help for a couple of days. I was out of work 6 weeks. Only for the fact I would have liked to have another baby but with my issues I couldn't have anyways. You hurt like Hell for awhile then you start getting stronger. You are only emotional if you let yourself be. It was the best thing I've ever done, no more pain. I took the pills for awhile but decided I couldn't afford them, besides they made me emotional, but I don't have hot flashes like they said I would and I am pretty much in a good mood for the most part. They went in from my c section and I can't remember what part she preformed on me. But it was a relief from the pain and moodiness,
