I'd go for A but E could be true also. A is more of a pure science objective whereas the others could be viewed as the aims of applied science.

I'd go with D. Biotech deals with understanding biological processes, treating diseases, and improving food sources. It (rightly) stays away from modifying humans, though.

While there is a lot of research into gene therapy to treat genetic disorders once they are in place, determining what genes a person inherits or passes on to their child crosses an ethical line.
