I agree with what Gold wing does but the analog TVs go out on February 17, 2009...must have the converter box...unless you have cable or satellite. Satellite in my area is way cheaper than the local cable company. There was an article in the new AARP magazine concerning this information. Starting in January 2008, the government will offer each household 2 $40.00 coupons towards these converter boxes, they are going to cost $50-$75.00. For more information got to: www.dtv.gov or call 1-888-225-5322.....all new TVs must have labeling on them stating if they are HD compatible or not. And, yes I am going to upgrade after the first of the year to a big screen, prices are coming down.

I have a 55" HD TV in a 10X13 TV room....if fills my vision, I get engrossed in the movies, etc. YES, big screen is here to stay. I would wait at this point, otherwise, if you do not have cable, you are going to have to add a box to your set, for in but a few years, all broadcasting is slated to go digital. IF you buy now, buy digital so you won't have to have the added box. I use a projection regular TV, it is just fine for me. Solid state are too expensive for what I watch..but i will say that when HD is on, there is a great difference, I tried the dish system, very good, but far too expensive for what you get....if you have the channels you want, it costs up to about 120 per month, and that is double what I pay for good cable for the same shows....the higher quality is NOT worth it to me. You asked for my opinion, you got it. AS far as I can see, if you have the room, projection tv's are just fine, are brighter by far than regular tubes, and are cheap at this time. DLP screens are rather contrasty, LCD screens are too high priced. DLP projection requires an occasional bulb replacement to the tune of about 400.00! LCD screens last about 7000 or so hours and begin to fade...so I will keep the tv I have until it dies, then thin about the next tv...let's face it...I don't need HD to watch reruns of Law and Order..I can recite the script by heart. I don't have one but would love one. The cost has always been too high as with any thing new. The cost is coming down so maybe soon they will be affordable. I to bulked on a microwave and cell phone but have both also. I never felt that away about the HD's, wanted one from the start. I do wonder if my room is too small for them though.

I can afford to have one but don't. Am waiting for the price of the nice new really slim models to become less expensive. Am not willing to lay out $2,000,00 for a television. I guess because TV is just not that important. One of our kids has an HD, almost movie screen size. It is nice to see it across a large room when a bunch of kids are running around but that's it. I would spend the money on a sound system though.

For the 52 inch range, Plasma would be a better option than LCD. If you don't plan on wall-mounting the TV, you could go several inches bigger and consider a DLP projection TV, which would be cheaper per inch of screen size than either LCD or plasma. And as far as plasmas go, Pioneer is the best brand, but is quite expensive, but Panasonic is very good as well and is relatively affordable. Don't buy any other brand plasma except Samsung, LG, or Sanyo.

We got a HD 3 years ago and I really enjoy it. But it is so big ,my husband and I like to never got it up on the entertainment center. I don't know what I will do if it break down. How am I gonna get it out of the house? Couldn't afford the wall hanging model. But until then I do enjoy It . Forget trying to move the furniture in the next few years.Ha Ha

No thank you. I have a large entertainment unit with doors that close over the TV (thus hiding the screen). I certainly do not want BIG BROTHER IN THE DEN OR THE LIVING ROOM! 1984 has come and gone. I have a 37" in the cabinet, and the picture is FABulous - all digital of course. All HD programming comes in beautifully. Soooo No I'm going to stick with what I have until it dies on me.

My fiance & I just purchased a 40 inch, Sony, HD tv, over the weekend. Since we have Direct TV, the tech had to come to our home, take one of the satellite dishes down & replace it with one that is for HD viewing. The programs that are in HD, especially sports, are awesome to watch. We made a wise choice when selecting our new tv & Circuit City was the place to go in our area.

We don't have a large screen HD television. My husband would probably enjoy getting one, but it's not something I want. I had to quit going to the movies when they made the screens so big, because of motion sickness. Everything moving around me so fast made me dizzy, I'm afraid it would be the same with a big screen TV.

No, my television doesn't get any stations because my antena broke. I used it for dvds only, and I don't miss tv shows at all. When I was in Arizona visiting my brother I watched Journeyman a couple of times. It was okay. I guess my big problem with tv is the commercials!
