If I coated the top of my hand in rubbing alcohol would I be able to light it with out getting burned? Also I play guitar I think it would make for an amazing solo... so would that work?
Thanks

I don't know actually. I'm 42 now and I still listen to the Stones, AC/DC, Zeppelin, Quiet Riot, etc. I just appreciate the music really more than anything else. My big problem is going to a bar where a live band is playing and the music's too loud for the size of the room and the music is also louder than the lyrics. I like the quality of music that I get from the radio or CD because it's all perfectly equalized. I never was in to the big stage show stuff.

For a minute, there, I misread your question and thought you wanted to douse the top of your *head* in alcohol and set it on fire, which would definitely NOT be advisable. Hair is very flammable.
It is possible to pull off the effect you describe. HOWEVER! It should only be done under fire department supervision to make sure you don't really set yourself on fire, and it should absolutely NOT be done near electrical equipment (like your guitar) or near other wildly flammable materials like stage curtains, bandmates, audience members, etc. Remember that nightclub fire in Rhode Island that got a bunch of people killed? I'm sure you don't want to invite that kind of tragedy into your life. For heaven's sake, don't set yourself (or anyone else) on fire.
If you want cool effects, try this: Dress your guitar up with UV-active (fluorescent) decals. Before a performance, dust your hands with fluorescent fingerprinting powder, or use a fluorescent liquid preparation. When you get to your solo, kill the lights and have a black light trained on you. Your audience will only be able to see the fluorescent decals on your instrument and your hands. Voila. Instant cool effect without the fire hazard. If you don't like the black light idea, there are many other ways to generate performance effects that do not involve endangering yourself, your band, your audience, and your venue. Please use one of those instead.

Dude...
You're forgetting one thing about "flammables" and guitar playing...(try to use a little "intuition" here...)
Sure...the rubbing alcohol will burn off quickly without "initially" causing pain...but you've forgotten one thing...
As soon as the rubbing alcohol burns off...
Your skin will take over the "carbon cycle exchange" of heat...and you'll soon after be unable to play guitar very well...
I think you've not thought this through enough...
I would just become such a good guitarist, if I were you (like me) so you won't need to resort to pyrotechnics to mask your lousy guitar playing...
If you learn how to really rip on a lead...the fire will be in everybody's imagination...which doesn't burn flesh at all...although if you get good enough...it will amaze people that it doesn't burn your hands...
Trust me...rippin' smoking leads need no "fiery enhancements..." They speak for themselves with the sheer incredible "burning sound of it all..." (my bio is a "caracature" ...I'm one of the most incredible smokin' rippin' guitar players that ever lived...believe me...the world just isn't ready for me yet...unfortunately...I wasn't born with the GQ rocker looks of Slash...blame it on my parents...damn them...though I love them...)

it would probably work although your hand will turn to a crisp in a few minutes so i dont reccomend using it for a guitar solo, maybe getting a fireproof glove and dousing that in alcohol would work. try it, just dont hurt yourself my friend

yes, for a few seconds. Those folks who perform stunts like this professionally have safety first in mind and they have protective equipment so that they do not become 'roast beast'
Leave dangerous stunts like this to the pros. If you want to be a stuntman, then go get some training before trying anything.

I think that would be insane, not cool.
Also I don't know if ir would work. I imagine it wouldn't because once the fire burned through the alcohol, most likely it would start buring your skin.

Somehow I knew I would not see Darth being on fire in that video. It just doesn't make sense that someone would conviently have a video camera around at that exact moment......

Sweetie, WHY do you want to burn yourself up like that! Any type of alcohol is flammable - don't light it!
If you do, it may very well be your first, last and ONLY 'amazing solo'!

um. i wouldnt if i were you. its hard to catch on fire without getting burned unless you have sort of glove! but like, that would be hard to play the guitar if you had a glove on. so...good luck?

Well, it depends. Do you want to actually KEEP the hand after you're done, or is this a one-time thing?
If you do it against better judgement though, one suggestion:
