Some advice or tips that you've used would be wonderful. How often should I take her out, talk to her teachers, and help her with her homeworks (so that she can make and keep an honor roll)? I really dislike sharing my time with anyone, but I want my niece to be happy and healthy. I don't let her use the internet at my place anymore whenever I don't see her on it because she abused it by using it to chat with her bf (which she wasn't allowed to have one) and cussed her parents on there.

I don't think she's a bad kid, but I feel like I've neglected her. And I'm afraid that she'll turn into a bad kid. At the same time, I just want to do nothing during my spare time and not have to worry about anything. I use to spend more time with her when i worked less.

Thank you for all of your advices. It's going to be an arm and a leg, but I'll do more activities with her and keep your suggestions in mind.

Just spend some quality girl time with her. Take her out to the mall or somewhere to hang out. Take her to get her nails done. While you're with her, just share your advice with her. Speak with her about how the real world is and how you hope she follows the right path. Be a role model. That's the important thing.

I don`t think you can. Time with a person, is what brings you together, so that in being a confidant you will be able to influence her. The trouble with us all today, is the lack of time to spend with those we love. Sorry, and good luck.

You are not her parent and it is not your job to raise her. She also knows if you are spending time with her because you feel you HAVE to, not becasue you WANT to spend time with her.

If you feel you MUST spend time wiht her, find an activity you both like - rollar blading, coffee and a book at the bookstore, whatever - and share that.

well sometimes it's hard to be an adult, too, i guess
but a few years out of your life to make a difference in your own flesh and bloods world, shouldn't be this hard.
take her to lunch and just listen,
let her rattle on
and see the beauty of your neice, and you'll see someone who really needs you right now.
good luck.

Just be a good rolemodel for her and be open to any questions she may have for you.
